According to information of D.O. Bierzo, the beginning of the culture of wine making in the Bierzo region can go back to Greeks or Phoenicians with an important influence of the Roman Empire, to reach ist maximum development in the middle ages, being crossed by Pilgrim´s way to Santiago it takes a run up to wine making that would be linked to the Bierzo forever.

With almost 4000 hectares of vineyards, some of them more than a hundred years old, El Bierzo is situated in the northwest of Spain, being protected by mountains it´s got a microclimate, with influences of Galicia and the plateau of Castilla y Léon, that keeps away premature frosts and with an average rainfall between 700 and 800 litres per year, an average temperature of 13º and an average of insolation of 2000 hours per year.
